We aim to deliver the benefits of the future H2 society today!

Our mission is to offer our customers environmentally friendly power systems developed with unique fuel cell and reformer technology that is suitable for both existing and future fuel infrastructures

Over the years, the Volvo Group has promoted extensive research in the field of fuel cell systems, and this has resulted in an innovative, unique and patented technology for converting commercially available hydro carbon fuels into clean, environment-friendly electricity.

Vast investments are being made by the industry into hydrogen fuel cell systems and while the results are promising, the infrastructure for hydrogen, which is required to take full advantage of the benefits offered by fuel cells, is not yet available. Estimates vary, but it is likely to require a number of decades before a comprehensive hydrogen distribution infrastructure can be thoroughly developed.

PowerCell’s unit PowerPac system, currently under development, is being engineered to use today’s fuels, both fossil and renewable, to power fuel cells and therefore create clean energy. We are designing our fuel cell systems so that most readily available hydrocarbon fuels such as diesel and gasoline can be used in our fuel cell systems.

In addition, the PowerPac is being planned for easy adaptation to renewable fuels such ethanol and methanol which can be converted into hydrogen rich gas. Once these fuels become commercially available, our customers will be equipped to use them with our fuel cell products.

Our aim is to provide a unique fuel cell power system (an auxiliary power unit; APU) that allows our customers to utilize the existing fuel infrastructures without further damage to the environment. We believe that our system truly bridges the gap between the infrastructure of today and that of tomorrow, by using tomorrow’s technology within today’s reality.
