Minister for Industry Mikael Damberg visited PowerCell

The leading Nordic fuel cell company PowerCell Sweden AB (publ) was visited by Minister of Industry, Mikael Damberg, for talks about how fuel cells will contribute in saving the climate.

In September, the Swedish government announced that they want to invest SEK 1 billion to strengthen the automotive industry and contribute to the electrification of the car fleet, if the business community contributes with an equal amount. The research institute RISE is, together with amongst other Chalmers, commissioned to conduct a preliminary study. Yesterday, the Minister for Industry, Mikael Damberg visited PowerCell to discuss how fuel cell technology is a part of the electrification of the fleet.

“We demonstrated our production and research facilities and we talked about how authorities in Germany and China invest significantly in fuel cells for the automotive industry. Fuel cells are powered by hydrogen and air, and generate electricity and heat without any emissions other than water. Therefore, it is so important that a part of the resources that the government wants to invest in the electrification of vehicles, is devoted to fuel cells”, said Per Wassén, CEO of PowerCell Sweden AB.

Tuesday’s meeting was not the first time that Mikael Damberg and Per Wassén met.

“When Mikael Damberg, Stefan Löfven and two additional ministers visited China in June, I was one of the business representatives. In China, the population is suffering from serious health problems as a result of the extensive use of fossil fuels. Our fuel cells make it possible to save the climate by opening the doors to the hydrogen community. The investment in electromobility should therefore be distributed between fuel cells and batteries”, concludes Per Wassén.

About PowerCell Sweden AB (publ)
PowerCell Sweden AB (publ) is the leading fuel cell company in the Nordics, which develops and produces environmentally friendly power systems for stationary and mobile customer applications.

PowerCell has developed a modular system of fuel cell platforms, powered by clean environmentally friendly produced hydrogen where only electricity, heat and water are emissions. The fuel cells are also designed to handle the reformed hydrogen from e.g. biogas, natural gas, biodiesel or standard diesel.

In case hydrogen infrastructure is missing, PowerCell has combined its leading fuel cell and reformer technology and developed a fuel cell system, PowerPac, which converts standard diesel, with hydrogen, into electricity. This is done in an energy efficient and environmentally friendly way, in which emissions of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and particles are completely eliminated and the carbon dioxide is greatly reduced compared with a conventional diesel engine.

PowerCell Sweden AB (publ) is listed on First North at Nasdaq Stockholm and is an industrial spinout from the Volvo Group. G&W Fondkommission is appointed Certified Adviser by the Company. Among the largest owners are Midroc New Technology, Fouriertransform, Finindus and Volvo Group Venture Capital. For additional information, please visit: www.powercell.se.

The first one-stop-shop for hydrogen and fuel cell technology in the Nordic countries

The leading Nordic fuel cell company PowerCell Sweden AB (publ) continues to commercialize and industrialize fuel cell technology. Now, the company Hyon AS is launched as a one-stop shop for customers who want to benefit from the power of modern hydrogen and fuel cell technology.

As previously communicated, PowerCell Sweden, Nel ASA and Hexagon Composites, have agreed to collaborate to develop integrated hydrogen solutions. The company Hyon AS is now launched, combining the skills that the founders have throughout the value chain: from renewable production, storage and distribution of hydrogen to power generation with fuel cell technology.

For PowerCell, this is an additional step in the commercialization and industrialization of climate smart fuel cell technology.

- Hyon is the first one-stop shop for hydrogen projects in the industry. The company is based in Norway, where there is a great interest in fuel cell technology. Hyon has already received a large number of customer requests from the maritime sector, where the need for clean and secure energy is great, says Charlotta Sahlin, Director Marketing & Communications at PowerCell Sweden and board member of Hyon.

More information about Hyon and the company’s solutions can be found at http://www.hyon.no.

PowerCell presents Q2 2017 interim report

The leading Nordic fuel cell company PowerCell Sweden AB (publ) presents interim report for Q2 2017. The company describes a continued increase in customer interest and a constantly increasing number of requests from companies wanting to test PowerCell’s products and prototypes.

The quarterly sales efforts and successful directed share issue, which included a capital injection of MSEK 225 before issue costs, confirms the transition of PowerCell: From a technically-oriented start-up company with focus on development, into an innovative commercial pioneering company with products designed for mass production. The quarter’s net sales amounted to TSEK 5 996, which is more than twice as much as the second quarter of 2016.

“We see a continued increase of customer interest and get a constantly increasing number of requests from companies wanting to test PowerCell’s products and prototypes. The continued heat records that are measured around the world remind us that it is urgent to switch to environmentally friendly alternatives and to invest in hydrogen and fuel cell technology”, says Per Wassén, CEO of PowerCell Sweden AB.

During the second quarter, PowerCell has announced a non-binding letter of intent with German authorities. The project, called AutoStack-Industrie, aims to develop the PowerCell S3 as a common technology platform for the German automotive industry. The project includes BMW, Daimler, Ford and Volkswagen, amongst others.

“The interest for fuel cells is growing, and we want to make it easy for customers to implement environmentally friendly alternatives. During the quarter we have formed a joint venture with Norwegian Nel ASA and Hexagon Composites to develop integrated hydrogen solutions and together create a one-stop-shop for the customers”, says Per Wassén.

Together with the interest group Vätgas Sweden, PowerCell participated in the Almedalsveckan in Visby, where the need for fossil-free transport was discussed intensively.

“We are pleased that politicians at regional and local level start to take initiatives to enable this also in Sweden. For example, Västra Götaland has contributed to the realization of the hydrogen station Mariestad municipality has built”, says Per Wassén and concludes:

“We are in a major technology shift and through our platform strategy, that is based on products that can be easily customized and used in different customer applications, we are well positioned to  meet the  upcoming growth, thus creating value for the environment and society as well as for customers and PowerCell’s shareholders.”

PowerCell’s Per Ekdunge spoke as the AutoStack-Industrie project was presented

The leading Nordic fuel cell company PowerCell Sweden AB (publ) participates in the German AutoStack-Industrie project to develop a fuel cell platform for the automotive industry. When the project was launched last week, PowerCell’s Per Ekdunge was one of the introductory speakers.

Last week, the project AutoStack-Industrie was launched in Berlin by Norbert Barthle, State Secretary at the Ministry for Traffic and Digital Infrastructure. In connection with the launch, Per Ekdunge, one of PowerCell’s founders and CEO of PowerCell’s German subsidiary, held one of three presentations. Per represented the network’s five component suppliers.

“This is a network that includes everything from nanoscale component manufacturers to the delivering of complete fuel cell stacks. Together we have previously shown that we are extremely successful partners. AutoStack-Industrie leads to a common fuel cell platform that allows the automotive industry to replace fossil fuels with hydrogen”, said Per Ekdunge.

The aim of the cooperation is to create even closer cooperation with the customers and together strengthen the position as global engineering leader of key components for fuel cell technology.

“As early as 2021, the automotive industry will have access to clean technology that will make water the only emission from cars”, said Per Ekdunge.

The group of component suppliers include, in addition to PowerCell: Freudenberg, Dana, Umicore and Greenerity.
