PowerCell’s Per Ekdunge spoke as the AutoStack-Industrie project was presented

The leading Nordic fuel cell company PowerCell Sweden AB (publ) participates in the German AutoStack-Industrie project to develop a fuel cell platform for the automotive industry. When the project was launched last week, PowerCell’s Per Ekdunge was one of the introductory speakers.

Last week, the project AutoStack-Industrie was launched in Berlin by Norbert Barthle, State Secretary at the Ministry for Traffic and Digital Infrastructure. In connection with the launch, Per Ekdunge, one of PowerCell’s founders and CEO of PowerCell’s German subsidiary, held one of three presentations. Per represented the network’s five component suppliers.

“This is a network that includes everything from nanoscale component manufacturers to the delivering of complete fuel cell stacks. Together we have previously shown that we are extremely successful partners. AutoStack-Industrie leads to a common fuel cell platform that allows the automotive industry to replace fossil fuels with hydrogen”, said Per Ekdunge.

The aim of the cooperation is to create even closer cooperation with the customers and together strengthen the position as global engineering leader of key components for fuel cell technology.

“As early as 2021, the automotive industry will have access to clean technology that will make water the only emission from cars”, said Per Ekdunge.

The group of component suppliers include, in addition to PowerCell: Freudenberg, Dana, Umicore and Greenerity.

PowerCell has received a German letter of intent to develop a fuel cell platform with partners in the German automotive industry

The leading Nordic fuel cell company PowerCell Sweden AB (publ) has received a nonbinding declaration of intent from the German Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure together with a major consortium including BMW, Daimler, Ford and Volkswagen. The companies participate in a funded lighthouse project of the German Program Office NOW to develop a common fuel cell stack platform with PowerCell acting as stack developer.

PowerCell has, together with its German partners BMW, DANA, Daimler, Ford, Freudenberg Performance Materials, Greenerity, NuCellSys, Umicore, Volkswagen and ZSW, submitted an application to the German authorities to develop and invest in the industrialization of a common fuel cell stack technology for automotive application in the framework of the joint AutoStack-Industrie- Project (ASI). The project is planned to be performed in two phases, whereof the total budget of the first project phase comprises 29 months and MEUR 36 with PowerCell’s share estimated to approximately MEUR 5.3

Germany has allocated considerable resources for the development of fuel cell and hydrogen technologies. The National Innovation Program for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP)has recently entered a second phase. During the period 2016-2019, Germany invests MEUR 250 in the program “Hydrogen and fuel cell technology 2016-2026″.

Together with leading German vehicle manufacturers, component suppliers and the Centre of Solar and Hydrogen Research (ZSW), PowerCell is in the unique position to develop a standardized European fuel cell stack platform that shall enable emission-free transport. The platform can be used in different vehicles and vehicle platforms to generate economies of scale and reduce the investment cost of vehicle manufacturers and component suppliers. The platform strategy can establish a significant competitive advantage for the participating companies, thus facilitating the commercialization of automotive fuel cell technology. By creating a joint consortium, the participating vehicle and component manufacturers increase the ability to quickly deliver high-quality and cost- effective products to the market.

“The strategic value of this development project is significant. The fact that PowerCell was chosen as development partner in such a strong consortium shows how far we have come. ASI is an extension of the earlier AutoStack Core project that the PowerCell S3 fuel cell stack is based upon. In that project, we were able to prove our excellent skills and technology”, said Per Wassén, CEO of PowerCell Sweden AB.

“Now it is about developing products that allow our society to continue to transport goods and people, but doing that without carbon dioxide emissions. We were chosen due to our competence that amongst other things manifests in the outstanding performance of our products”, said Per Ekdunge, CEO of PowerCell’s German subsidiary.

PowerCell’s CEO receives awards

Financial Hearing’s Presentation Award 2016 has been awarded Per Wassén, CEO of the leading Nordic fuel cell company PowerCell Sweden AB (publ).

Financial Hearing grants the annual Presentation Award to executives who successfully communicates their business. This year, Financial Hearing has chosen to let PowerCell’s Per Wassén receive the award for This Year’s Presentator of the Micro Cap category, together with Vitec’s Lars Stenlund and Storytel’s Jonas Tellander.

“In the category Micro Cap, Financial Hearing wants to highlight companies with potential and give them a boost on the way. We see that PowerCell is ready for institutional capital”, says Per-Erik Holmström, chairman of Financial Hearings and “permanent secretary” for the Financial Hearing Award.

As a CEO of a growing cutting edge company, you need to be able to present both positive and negative messages while balancing market expectations. Per Wassén has shown continuity and reach when conducting financial presentations over time. We would like to encourage this“, says Per-Erik Holmström.

It’s easy to present when the business is so interesting and exciting. PowerCell’s fuel cell technology allows companies in, for example, the automotive industry to access energy without emissions other than water. This is a major step towards the hydrogen community – and a clear step away from burning different types of carbon,” said Per Wassén, CEO of PowerCell.

On PowerCell’s website (investor.powercell.com/presentations) there are several filmed presentations that Per Wassén has held for investors. The award was awarded yesterday, Tuesday, June 13, at Operaterassen in Stockholm, Sweden.

More information about the award is available at www.financialhearings.com/financial-hearings-awards.
